Class 10 CBSE Board examination Pass Criterion Made Easy

The CBSE board exam was made compulsory from this year. However, CBSE has given relaxation in conditions to pass Class X exams. This relaxation about Class 10 CBSE Board examination - Pass Criterion Made it easy for students to pass 10th board this year. According to new modification, students appearing for CBSE’s Class X exam, do not need to pass in the written theory paper of 80 marks and internal assessment / practical exam of 20 marks separately. What they need is only 33% overall. However, CBSE has clarified that this is a one-time exemption only for students appearing for CBSE Class 10 exam in March 2018.

Students taking Class 10 CBSE Board examination this year have been exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in the subjects having internal assessment component of 20 marks and Board examination component of 80 marks.

Class 10 students of this batch will appear for the Board exam on March 5, which will be the first mandatory public exam after eight years.

Earlier in UPA time, CBSE had introduced the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) scheme along with optional Board exam. Those who opted out of board exam had to take the school-based exam. However, on consultation with MHRD, CBSE revoked the CCE system and Class X Board examination was made compulsory.

According to the latest notification issued by CBSE, the examination committee in its recently held meeting decided to give the one-time exemption to the Class 10 students to the first batch after the return of Board exams. As per the notification, “passing criteria” for the Class 10 students of 2017-18 batch is "overall 33% marks (internal assessment and the Board exam marks collectively)".

The same passing criteria will be applicable in the additional subjects also if the subjects have internal assessment of 20 marks and Board examination of 80 marks.

The new rule will also apply for students with subjects under National Skills Qualifications Framework scheme for the five major subjects - 2 languages, science, maths and social science. However, there will be no exemption from separate pass criteria to subjects where the internal assessment comprise of 50 marks.
