JEE Main 2018 Offline (Pen and Paper) Vs Online (Computer Based Test) Mode for JEE 2018

JEE Main Online application has started from 1st December 2017. Students are confused about JEE Main offline and Online Mode. There are so many questions asked by the applicants. Some of the frequently asked questions, factors to decide about JEE Exam Mode selection are

1. What are advantages of JEE Main 2018 Offline Pen and Paper based Test?

  • Comfort Factor - Though in this age of internet and mobile it should not be factor but still most students are not comfortable in using computers and lack practice of online exam.

  • No Requirement of Technical Skills - Offline mode of JEE Main paper does not require any technical skill.

  • Extra Time for JEE Advanced - . JEE Main 2018 is roughly 1 week before online exam. Therefore, it gives one extra week extra time for the students who are mainly aiming for JEE Advanced 2018. However, one should immediately start practicing test papers in online mode because in Advance 2018 there is no escape from online mode.

  • Space for rough work: In offline mode, rough work can be done on the question paper itself. This increases concentration level of the student.

2. What are advantages of online Computer based Test for JEE Main 2018?

Advantages of JEE Main Online Examination:

  • In JEE Main online exam, you will be assigned a computer in the test centre. You’ll be able to mark your answer by simply clicking on the bubble. Therefore, Less Time is Wasted in Marking Answers. You do not have to waste time in filling small bubbles. Just click on the answer from the given option and you are done.

  • In JEE Main online exam, there will be a question palette, which will indicate the number of questions answered, skipped or remaining.

  • There is always time factor, which will be very clearly visible in online mode of JEE exam. Therefore, you will exactly know how much time is remaining.

  • In JEE Main online exam, Questions can be Marked For Review for later and come back to it after rest of the questions are completed.

  • Online JEE Main Exam Mode gives you option to Change Your Answers even after marking it. Therefore, you will not be punished for mistakenly marked answer.

  • In JEE Main online Test, you will also get real time experience of Computer Based Test that will help you in Online Computer Based Test for JEE Advanced.

  • In JEE Main online Test, you will also get realtime experience of Computer Based Test that will help you in Online Computer Based Test for JEE Advanced.

  • There are more centers where Online JEE Main 2018 examination will be conducted. Therefore, you have more chances of getting a Center Close to Your Place of Residence. This will save time, energy and money for you.

  • JEE Main online exam will be conducted 1 week after offline exam. Therefore, if you are giving XII boards exam then online exam (JEE Mains 2018) will provide one extra crucial week for revision/preparation. This extra time can work wonders if one utilizes this time effectively.

3. What are disadvantages of Pen and Paper based offline JEE Main 2018?

  • Wastage of Time in Marking Answers: More time (roughly 10 minutes) is wasted in Marking Answers OMR Sheet. This time can be utilised in solving some extra questions.

  • Answers Can’t be Changed: Offline JEE Main Exam Mode gives you No Option to Change Your Answers once you mark it. Therefore, you may be punished for wrong answer marked by mistake.

  • There are lesser centers where Offline JEE Main 2018 examination will be conducted. Therefore, you may not have to go to a Center far away from Your Place of Residence. This will consume lot of time, energy and money. A new city might even create new problems while commuting to the exact location of examination.

  • Very Less Time After Boards: JEE Main offline exam will be conducted 1 week before online exam. Therefore, if you are giving XII board exam then you will have very little time to revise entire syllabus of class 11th and class 12th.

4. What are disadvantages of Computer based online JEE Main 2018 Test?

Disadvantages of JEE Main Online Exam are

  • Lack of confidence: Most JEE aspirants have taken only very few online tests so far. During your preparation you have practised a lot on offline exam pattern of marking answers in an OMR Sheet. So, the aspirants often feel less confident on going ahead with online mode of JEE Exam.

  • Technical Glitches: You might experience technical issues like internet connectivity problem, power failure etc. during online mode of JEE Exam.

  • Pressure of ticking time: In the online version, a clock ticks continuously on the screen which creates pressure if you have wasted some time in earlier questions. This may prompt you to make wild guesses and skipping steps in remaining questions that decreases your accuracy.

  • Experiencing wrong figures on the screen: Most of the questions in JEE involve calculations. In this case you will be provided a rough sheet during the online exam. While solving the calculation based questions, there is a chance to encounter with wrong figure or diagram on the computer screen. This problem is also possible in the offline exams, but the chances of this occurring in online exam are higher.

  • Health Issues: Sitting in front of the computer for 3 hours may cause headache and stress in eyes unless you have sufficient practice for online tests.

5. Which paper is easier, offline or Online Mode for JEE Main 2018?

Level of questions in JEE main Online and Offline paper is almost the same. Moreover, normalisation of score to percentile makes it irrelevant. Therefore, it does not matter which paper is easier.

6. Should I choose offline or Online Mode for JEE Main 2018? What is final suggestion?

OR

7. Which is better Mode offline or Online for JEE Main 2018? Which mode should I select?

We have highlighted all the pros and cons of Pen and Paper based Offline Mode as well as Computer Based Online Mode of JEE. Based on the points discussed above, choose wisely your mode of appearing in JEE Main 2018 exam. You may also take advices from various knowledgeable people but take your own decision independently so that you may not have to regret it.

Always remember anything that worked well for X may not work for Y. Also most popular is not always the right one and the right one is not always the popular one.

8. Why online JEE Main 2018 is better than Offline Mode for JEE Main 2018?

With the fast advent and availability of technology online examinations are becoming more and more popular. Nowadays students from remote places are using internet on smart phones for their preparation of competitive examinations including JEE. Launch of Reliance Jio has even made it affordable. There are lot of platforms that provide enough Practice for Online JEE Papers and Previous Year Papers.

My personal experience has been fairly encouraging with online examination, given the test centres take enough precautions to prevent abnormal machine behaviour, erratic power supply. Less Time Wastage in Marking Answers, Ability to Change Your Answers, Advantage in Online Computer Based Test for JEE Advanced, Center Close to Your Place of Residence, 1 week additional Preparation Time make online JEE Main Exam more preferable.

However your decision must be independent and to facilitate you to choose the better option we have described the advantages and disadvantages of the two modes of the examination.

Take JEE Main mock tests in the online mode (Computer based or mobile based) and get used to the platform. Also, you can solve unlimited JEE Main practice questions and improve your speed and accuracy. You will also get unique Self Analysis Feature and very important reports based on your own analysis after every test you take here.
